Problems with ge0 under 6/06 on Sparc

Scenario: Two Sun Ultra 60s. Connecting to SmartStack via both hme0 and ge0. Ring is set up correctly, and I get yellow lights (i.e., thr red light foes out on the back of the card), but am unable to plumb either ge0 on either machine.

ifconfig ge0 on both machines reports "no such device", and I'm a litle confused,. How do I get ge0 to show up and use them?
