DS configuration problem v5.2 on Solaris 10

Hi,

I tried to configure the Directory Server based on the documentation " LDAP in the Solaris Operating Environment". The first time I installed Directory Server was based on the manual installation (select all the packages to be installed). Then I ran the configuration programs:

idsktune

directoryserver configure

mpsadmserver configure

idsconfig

The problem has started when I ran idsconfig. The LDAP Base DN was not the right one. Finally, I modified the DNS configuration and, then the DN was fine. This is where I started to have problems. The DN was not valid and idsconfig was looping to get a valid server name (the first question).

I found many articles on the Internet about my original problem and I tried some solutions selectively. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall with a documented procedure.

I reinstalled successfully, based on the messages. the Directory Server from the Java Enterprise DVD, and now, I have a differrent configuration problem.

A copy of the logfile:

=============

Installing Administration Server

Log file: /var/sadm/install/logs/Administration_Server_install.B10010631

Installed: /var/mps/serverroot/uninstall_Sun_ONE_Administration_Distribution.class

Uninstaller is at: /var/mps/serverroot/uninstall_Sun_ONE_Administration_Distribution.class

Installing Sun Java(TM) System Administration Server

Installing Sun Java(TM) System Administration Console

Installing Sun Java(TM) System Server Console Core

Installing Java Runtime Environment

Install complete.

An instance of Administration Server has already been configured.

The current configuration has not been replaced.

=============

All the available configuration commands I tried refered to that existing instance.

Then I decided to install Patch 4 just in case there was a bug. When I was prompted for the Admin Id and Admin Password, no luck. Didn't work. Probably related to the fact the Directory Server services cannot be started.

So I replied No when I was prompted if I want to continue and the procedure has terminated gracefully.

Now, I got the following message when I'm trying to run the directoryserver command:

Failed to load Main Class: SunONEAdministrationServer52

================

Is there a way to clean completly the environement when I deinstall Directory Server. Some values are still there when I'm reinstalling form the Java Enterprise DVD. (Automated installed).

Any suggestions are welcome. This is a producton server....

Cordially,

Michael

Try running prodreg and see if any packages have any exclamations against them. Get rid of them, and anything else that you may not want. If prodreg doesn't help, edit the following file:

/var/sadm/install/productregistry

Its an XML kind of a file, so just edit it to get rid of whatever you have already uninstalled, but still shown as installed in the installer.
