Tool for generating list/tar ball following 'required' patches in README's

Greetings,

Customer referencing Alert 102178:

"Daylight Saving Time (DST) Changes for Australia (2006), United States (2007) and Others"

5. Resolution

The "U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005" which goes into effect in 2007 is addressed in the following releases:

SPARC Platform

* Solaris 8 with patches 109809-02 or later and 108993-52 or later

* Solaris 9 with patches 113225-03 or later and 112874-33 or later

* Solaris 10 with patches 122032-01 or later and 119689-07 or later

--

Example of the customer's request:

Say he needs to install 108993-52:

Patches required with this patch:

108528-24 108989-01 110386-01 111023-03 111317-05 113648-03 115827-01 116602-01 (or greater)

--

108528-24:

Patches required with this patch:

108987-09 or greater 111111-03 or greater 111310-01 or greater

I didn't bother looking at the others. Not necessary to make this point.

If customer wants to install 108993-52 (or greater) he needs

108528-24 (or greater) which requires 3 other patches.

Customer is looking for a tool that will evaluate this link of 'required'

patches, starting at the top (108993), and generate a tar file and

patchorder list for this specific requirement. It would parse though

his currently installed patches, and the 'required' patches as listed

in the README's, and generate the appropriate tar file. He has 'many'

production machines running various OS levels and he only wants to

install the specific patches needed for each production environment

related to the specific patch(es) he needs to install as required by this

Alert.

Is there such a tool?

If not, the process is manual.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Regards,

Steve

smpatch can download and install the patches required with one command -

# smpatch update -i 108993-52

This will download 108993-52 itself along with any of the patches that are required for it, and the ones required by those, and so on.... It will then proceed to install all the patches needed in the tree to get 108993-52 installed
