Solaris Update Manager
Hello,
I would like to apologize if this topic has been covered already...
The Sun Update Connection reports that Solaris 8 and 9 should be supported but at the moment Sun Update Manager is only for Solaris 10.
Sun Patch Manager download page says this product will be replaced by the new Sun Update Manager product.
Will Sun Update Manager (for Sun Update Connection-System) be available for Solaris 8 and 9?
Many thanks
andrea

Yes the SunUC toolset will be available shortly for Solaris 8 and 9 and will replace the existing Patch Manager product

Very good news and thanks for the quick reply.best regardsandrea

Your website says it will be available in September 2006. It is now October 2006 yet the software is not available. Is there an ETA for the client?
# 4
The latest ETA is November but this is, as always, subject to change.

Why was the old update manager for Solaris 8 & 9 "disabled" before the new one for Solaris 8 & 9 is ready to use?
Wouldn't it make sence to re-enable the old update services until the new update manager is ready for Solaris 8 & 9? Especially since the new update manager seem to be delayed even longer than expected.

What make you think that patch pro has been disabled for solaris 8/9.Works fine for me.
# 7
Well it stopped working for me pretty much the same day as SUN said they would stop the anonymous ftp access.
How can it be that your patch pro is still working? Did you set up that wget scripting stuff? I must admit that I haven't looked at that wget scripting at all, I kind of hoped that the new update manager would be ready by now.
..Or have I missed something else here?
Anyway it's not really that important at the moment, I can always apply a patch cluster if necessary.

No I'm just using smpatch functionality out of patch manager.Do you have 112945-44 installed?
# 9
Haven't had much time lately to look at this...
Anyway, I applied the patch you suggested shortly after I saw your reply. It didn't make much difference. I did notice however that smpatch failed in a slightly different way after that patch.
I started to suspect that some stealth changes in our corporate firewall might have something to do with it, but they claimed that nothing had changed for a long time. I also started to look at dusting off an old SUN machine I have at home to see if the updates work from home, but I never got around to do that yet.
However, just before I started to write this message I though I try one more time and the odd thing is that "smpatch analyze" actually worked all of a sudden!? I then tried "smpatch update" and that worked as well (except for a few errors).
What is going on? Has anything changed during last week?
Confused...

There have been no changes as far as we are aware.

Took some time to investigate this further.
From home I had no problem getting PatchPro to work, but patch 112945-44 was indeed necessary to get it to work (thanks for that).
Here at work smpatch just keeps on failing with "Connection reset" messages. It looks like I have to get back to the network admins about this after all. Just one question though.
Does PatchPro use any other forms of communication then http and https?
# 12
Hi.All communication with Sun's servers is done over HTTPS.Mod.

Is there a way to be notified when Sun Update Manager is available for Solaris 8 and 9?thanks,john
# 14
Best way is to watch the Update Connectioin homepages , and these forum pages.Mod.
