ordering patches

I have just started patching a Solaris 9 system using smpatch update. I had already downloaded the patches using smpatch download.

I notice however that the order in which the patches are applied is not the same as they appear in the output of a smpatch order command. In fact the first patch attempted by smpatch update was the last patch on the list produced by smpatch order.

Can anyone explain why this is happening?
