asadmin starting a domain outputs "Unable to read system environment."

Sun Java System Application Server 8.2

Mac OS 10.4.7

when I run the following commands:

cd /opt/SUNWappserver/bin

./asadmin start-domain domain1

It returns the following output:

Unable to read system environment. No system environment will be used.

Starting Domain domain1, please wait.

Log redirected to /opt/SUNWappserver/domains/domain1/logs/server.log.

Domain domain1 is ready to receive client requests. Additional services are being started in background.

What system enviroment is it refering too?

How do I troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks,

This may be due to java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError when the server is trying to read the environment variables.
