Ultra 10 w/ 3D creator displays no video

I recently acquired a used ultra 10 on ebay. During post the caps lock blinks as expected, occasionally becomes solid on and the machine beebs. WIth the 3d creator card, after about 5-10 minutes the monitor kicks on but i get a blank screen (all black). If I use the vga port with the onboard it will turn on for a second or two and then the monitor goes back to sleep.

I don't have a sun monitor. I do have a 13w3 connector from an older sun this hopefully will replace. The old sun works fine with the monitor and its a sparcstation 2!

I'm attempting to use a type 4 keyboard that I know works. I tried holding stop + N at startup and nothing seemed to happen. I do not have a serial cable to look at the output.

I believe the hard drive was wiped before it was shipped. I have a solaris 7 cd, but without any video i can't see to start it up.

Any ideas?

Disregard. It didn't seem to like my monitor.

nikon...

I was having the same problem, and I solved the issue by using a newer monitor. At first I had tried plugging in the VGA cable to one of two very old 14" IBM monitors (one was Feb. 1996, one was Jan. 1995)... neither of these monitors would work at the Sun VGA connector.

Then, I tried a year 2000 DELL E770 monitor, and the machine worked fine.

One note, if your machine has the Sun "Creator 3D" video card installed in it, the VGA port on the motherboard will be disabled until you take the Creator 3d card OUT of the machine.

With a newer monitor, and the Creator 3d card taken out of the machine, the VGA port works fine in my Sun Ultra 10 now.

Hello,

I am having a similar problem to yours, but I am not sure I have a Creator 3D card, it's an ATI Radeon card with a "Sun approval" sticker on it.

My machine worked fine with my monitor until I opened it and took out the video card (to try to get output out of the on-board VGA port). Now I can't get anything to display out of either port, with or without the second video card plugged in.

You can see more info on my post: http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=109061&tstart=0

I'm new to Sun hardware, so I have no idea what to do. If you have any ideas or suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
