Ultra 10 will not post - I think its dead.

I wanted to throw this out here before I go buy a new machine. The other day I rebooted my Ultra 10 and it never came back up. The machine will beep once, the keyboard led will blick once, and the fans (case & PS) are on. The screen is black and there is nothing on the console tty port.

I've tried removing just about every piece of hardware and rebooting, including dimms. I've also tried booting with Stop N, and it didn't help either. I also tried with the NVRAM removed, nothing.

If anyone has an idea of what I could be missing that would be great.

If you have a "Sun" keyboard with the four leds in the middle of it, each of those leds either seperately or together can give you an indication of what the problem may be. You have to watch carefully what leds are light during the POST process. If nothing appears, its dead. If you are using a non Sun keyboard, bad luck.

I think it sounds like a dead CPU myself or perhaps the NVRAM has cooked itself.

Ultra 10's along with 450's have the worst diags available. As a Sun SSE, those two systems caused me more grief than every other system Sun put out in the last seven years.

I have a Sun Type 6 keyboard. When I turn on the power all four of the LEDs light up once. They do not stay lit. Do you know if that corresponds to a particular error code?

The Ultra 10 Service manual says all four LEDs lit means "Reserved". Neat. Reserved place in a scrap heap I guess.
