I am planning to install SMC 3.6 (server ) on sunfire 480 running Solaris 2.9.My root file system has only 18GB .But I have other file system called smc with 80 gb.Is it possible can I install sun management center (server) on /smc directory? Other question I have is when I install SMC server do I have choose all the add-on products? (Please note that this is SMC server install not agent)

First, if you haven't seen it, 3.6.1 came out and is only a few weeks old. But it does included bug fixes since 3.6 came out.

Yes. One of the first questions it will ask is where you want to install the base files (default answer is "/opt" which will result in it creating /opt/SUNWsymon. If you said "/smc" it will go into /smc/SUNWsymon.

But... although the core files will go there, they don't take up the most space. Anything that changes (like the SunMC Oracle database) will install to the hard-coded path of "/var/opt/SUNWsymon". So if you want to save as much space as possible on your root partition you should symlink /var/opt/SUNWsymon to somewhere on /smc before you install.

The Server needs all addons that your Agents may be running. So, say, if you don't have any 12k/25k-class systems you can ignore the "High-End" addon on your Server. But say you plan to use the "Service Availability Manager" on at least one of your Agents, then you'll need it on your Server too.

You can always go back and add it later.. but that can be a pain... and since the current license for SunMC is "free (unless you want support)" most people just install almost all the addons up front.
