Sun Looking to Opening all Sun MC mibs

Community,

The Sun MC product team is looking for feedback from the community on whether or not there is a desire to open all Sun MC mibs. Specifically, this would be the official and supported publishing of all ANS mib files required to better understand the telemetry coming from a Sun MC agent. Today such telemetry can be snmpget/walk/set via SNMPv3 and a user is forced to use the mibExport command to view the currently unpublished ANS mib files.

If you are a Sun MC user and would like us to publish the Sun MC ANS mibs, please email me directly at michael.barrett@sun.com.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello Michael:

My question is very basic: it sounds like you have expertise in the Sun Mib area, so i'll ask anyway.

Running cisco wan manager on sun 2.8. I'm using mg-soft from a windows system, using the IP of the sun cwm server as the remote agent. I can snmpwalk the mib-2 branch, but get empty results when trying to walk from the cisco branch.I can, however, walk the cisco branch when going directly to a cisco switch IP as the remote agent, so, on the mg-soft side, know i've got the right mibs loaded. I think i don't have enough of the right mibs loaded on the sun. Is "loading" a mib on the sun the same as "compiling" it on the sun? is there a way to see exactly what mibs I have loaded on the sun? if I stop and restart the snmpd daemon, will it then pick up recently compiled mibs, or just re-read the mib directory and re-load everything? One other question is this: I notice that when I compiled some mibs taken from the sun (into mg-soft), some came back as compiled mibs with different names, ie., CISCO-WAN-MANAGER-CONNGROUP-MIB was one of them. I also don't see it in that form on the sun system. I see some smaller mibs.

thanks for any info,

john
