Sun Management Center 3.5 Supplement for the Sun Fire B1600 1.2

Hi Guys,

Before I go about looking at this product, can anyone tell me if it is really worth the effort?

Also, seeing as though Storedge 3510 and firmware update 4.11i appears to have http support, (not that I have got it working), is there any future plans to be able to use SunMC to manage them like you can do with T3?

And what about an integration pack with Smarts Incharge?

Cheers

Stephen

The 3510 is supported, but the integration is not as tight as I hope to see in the future.

Basically, one has to setup StorADE to monitor the 3510. It comes with a 'RAS' module that allows SunMC integration of the StorADE data.

I know of companies being unsatisfied with either the alarm information (which may be improved now?) and/or the increased delay of alarm propagation caused by having another application in the middle.

Best to try it out and see if it can meet your requirements.

Smarts InCharge has an SNMP trap receiver, and can be integrated using the generic Halcyon PrimeAlert framework adapter. The ability to tightly integrate it would be based on the InCharge expertise.

Feel free to contact me directly for further discussion,

Hi Ian,

I have no problems with Storade and SunMC integration (SUNWesraa and SUNWesras). I think it does a fine job and I have not found any glaring problems with events. There are some "topology" problems with StorEdge 3310 and 3511 systems where they get chucked in with hosts. Why this happens is beyond me as I would have thought they would have gone into the SAN storage module. Similiar problem with SAMQFS but I can cope with that that.

What about the B1600 integration?

Smarts Incharge does have an SNMP trap receiver but it is verging on the absolute rediculous (unless it has changed in the last couple of versions). There are not enough hours in a year to muck about with that.

Also, while the Tivoli argument is getting settled at work, does the Prime Alert for Hitachi Storage cope with the HDS TagmaStore?

Cheers

B1600s are supported; I believe there is even a separate chassis module.

If Smarts traps receiving is too difficult, then perhaps there is a CLI method for inserting events, ie:

"eventinsert %1 %2 %3 %4" where parameters are event severity, IP, message, etc.

If you can do that, then it would be pretty simple to integrate into Halcyon PrimeAlert EventAction at the SunMC server for a tight integration.

Also,

HDS TagmaStore is supposedly a rebranded as a Sun 9990, so the PrimeAlert HDS module should work fine.

If you download the latest from the Halcyon site and try it out, we will help you to best of our ability.Best to email me directly for HDS product support.

cheers,

iMac.
