Booting from a SAN

Hi There,

I am booting my V240 server running Solaris 10 from an EVA5000. The system boots fine and there are no issues there. I have created a device alias for each of the 4 ports on the controllers on the eva. These all work fine and the system is able to boot from each port. I have set the boot-device in the OK prompt to try port 1 first; then port 2 e.t.c. When I disconnect port 1from the san, the server try's to boot from that port, this obviously fails - but the server does not then try to connect to port 2- the next alias in the boot-device list.

Does anyone have any idea why?

Do you get any output from the OBP?

If we disconect the fibre cable from the switch i get a "loss of sync" error. If we disconect port 1 from the EVA, i get nothing reported, even in Very Verbose mode

You might want to ask this question in one of the OBP forums. It sounds like the storage is working ok but the OBP isn't trying the other devices. If you're booted up into Solaris and disconnect a cable does mpxio fail over correctly? (The EVA is symmetrical, right?)
