SparcStorage Array (SSA), how to add it ?
Hi Gurus,
I have a SparcStorage Array on a E4500 server with SunOS 5.6
Any ideas on what I need to do in order to be recognized by the server?
I cann't see it while running probe-scsi-all, no reboot -- -r, no disks, drvconfig, etc.
The arrays are powered on,
Regards

you should be able to "see" it without any setup. I didn't have a chance to work with the SSAs (1010) when I had them available... but I have used fiber storage- like the A5000, and with that box, you just attach the fiber cable and do a probe... I swear I used probe-scsi-all, but I have seen a probe-fiber.. don't remember. I wish I could say search the forums, but they have been so screwed up, I don't think they will be of any use.
please let me know if/when you get the beast working!
good luck,

not sure if you got this straightened out but I figured I would add to this.
As torreysun said you need the older soc not soc+.
Since you have a E4500 your i/o brd is most likely a 501-4883 which is soc+ and uses gbics 370-2303 which does not support the old SSA unit.
What you need is a soc host adaptor 501-2069 with soc module 370-1426 which can be added to the sbus slot on the 501-4883 i/o brd.
You will not be able to see the unit low level with probe-fcal-all or probe-scsi-all (I tried the probe-scsi-all command on an SS1000 with a SSA attached just to confirm). I do not have an E4500 to try the probe-scsi-all command with the SSA attached but am pretty sure you will not see it with that either. Probe-fcal-all was used on the E3500 units that had internal fibre drives.
Older systems Probe-scsi-all was originally only used to see scsi drives. On the newer units like the 280R, V880 which use internal fibre drives the probe-scsi-all command will show the fibre drives.
Thanks
