Relationship among SO8 versions by name?

As an education customer, I have seen versions of StarOffice 8 installation files that are named so-8-ga-*, so-8-pp1-*, and so-8-pp2-*, for various platforms. I have also seen the product update files for each version. Can you explain the relationship of these variously named files?

For example, is Product Update 2 needed with a Start Office installation from a *pp2* file?

Thank you.

The ga file is the whole SO8 package. The two pp files are the 1st & 2nd patches to fix issues in the original. Think of patching a pair of pants - you can wear a pair of patched pants but you can't wear a patch by itself.

If you needed to do a new installation today you would use the ga file and the pp2 file (pp2 includes all fixes in pp1). OpenOffice version 2.0.3 is now in beta testing which means that there will soon be a pp3 patch.
