Where can I find PROM Update...

Hi, I'm totally new to Sun/Solaris. Can anyone point me to the correct place to download the latest PROM update for an E450? How difficult are they to install ? I do not yet have the OS (Solaris 10) loaded due to bad CD images (I think), but is CD the manner in which one would apply the PROM update ? Any and all suggestions are sincerely welcome. THANKS !

Install your OS on that box and then go for the task of updating your OBP.

There are a couple of ways that you could get the flash-update file.

You could search on Sun's support web site, Sunsolve, or you could use the SSH to find it.

At Sunsolve you can use search terms,

such as 'E450' and perhaps 'prom', and/or perhaps 'update',

then wade through all the search results until you find what you need.

Then, there is a mantra that some of us mutter quietly:

"The Sun System Handbook is your friend ..."

"The Sun System Handbook is your friend ..."

"The Sun System Handbook is your friend ..."

There is a link to the downloadable zipfile at the front of the E450 page in the SSH.

http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E450/E450.html

Click the link to patch number 106122 and you'll get to another web page,

that is the README file of instructions.

It has a link for the latest version of the file.

(no need for the digitally "signed" version, use the "normal version")

The zipfile includes the binary data and a copy of that instruction README file.

The procedure is most easily done if you have a functional OS on the box.

You'd then have a root directory, that temporarily holds the flash-update binary.
