Administration guide?

HI there -

there does not seem to be a Sun Portal Server 7 Administration Guide in http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1303.1

it is referenced in the Technical overview (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3251/6n5g1ivnu?a=view) however the link (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2576) comes back with an error.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a copy of this document?

thanks

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, the current plan of record is to have the doc out along with the Java ES 5 beta. I'm not part of the product team but I pinged them on your behalf. If they have any updates, I'll do my best to pass it along.

Having said that, I find that other than the specific task instructions (when to click what), the portal 6.3 admin guide will generally give you the info you need to get things done. The one slight change is the addition of 'portal fabric', meaning you'll have the potential for 1-n portal servers, 1-n portal instances and 1-n search servers available through psadmin command line (well documented) and the admin console. The administration of each one of these is exactly like 6.3, you just have more of them.

Again, I'm not speaking for anything in an official manner, but didn't want your post to go unreplied to for too long.

Hi,

I'm the Doc Manager for Portal. Sorry about the broken link. I expected it to be corrected last week, but we ran into a bizarre new tools bug. :-) If I had known it was going to take so long I would have replied sooner. Fortunately, the specific information you need is available in various locations the Portal Server doc suites.

Here are the three bullets mentioned in the Technical Overview, with

details re: where user can get the information:

o Manage identity-based objects, including users, roles, and organizations

Available in Chapter 6 of Portal Server 6 2005Q4 Administration Guide

o Delegate administrative functions to end users

Available in Chapter 7 of Portal Server 6 2005Q4 Administration Guide

o Reset administrator passwords

Available in Chapter 10 of Access Manager 7 2005Q4 Administration Guide

Note: Portal Server does not currently document this. Changing the

administrator password is the same as changing any user password,

depending of course, on the permissions of the said administrator. For

example, amadmin (the top-level admin) can log in with his/her

credentials and not only change his/her password, but any admin or user

password on the server. To change the amadmin password, he/she would

edit the user profile for amadmin.

Hope this helps. Thanks for your patience.

Why most of the documents are password protected in the PS 7.1 documents collection at: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1483.1?Thanks.

I'll repeat the question: Why are the PS 7.1 documents password protected? How can I request a password? Why no Admin Guide for PS 7.0?

You can get access to Beta docs by working through your SUN account rep. Since JES5 release is slipping, I think SUN is not comfortable releasing documentation or JES5 components for public access, as yet.-Dexthor.

The docs are now available w/o need for a login. http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1483.17.1 is also available for download as part of JES5 at http://www.sun.com/software/javaenterprisesystem/getit.jsp
