Problem with search configuration

Hi, I have 2 portal instances on the same physical box, I want to configure both search engine, only one will run the crawler and I will do an import agent on the second instance to grab data from the server that has the crawler. My problem is when I go into the Access Manager console go into the Search configuration I choose the second instance but for some unknow reason it goes back to the first instance on the server. How can I configure the second portal/search instance on the same box. First question is this possible to do?, and How can I do it?
