Portal Themes

Hi all,

Okay, this is what I know (correct me if I'm wrong):

1 - To change the way your Desktop layout look, you actually define a new Desktop Type folder and change the template of the container you are using. So this handles pretty much your layout. (Yes/No?)

2 - When it comes to colour, images, javascript etc. thats where themes come in. This way, your Desktop Type can have different themes for the same layout. (Yes/No?)

Well, if both points scores a Yes, I'm just curious how does one correctly create a new theme for the portal just like those default themes that Sun Portal has provided (eg. neon, dusty etc). I want to modify the developer_sample portal to give it a totally different look. Any advice?

Thanks beforehand

Both answers are "Yes". You are on the right track.

The themes are defined in the Global Themes section of the display profile. For the Developer Sample, you can download the Display Profile Document for o=DeveloperSample. It's pretty simple to see where the theme definitions are located. Simply copy/paste one of the themes, change some colors, and change the name. Then you can upload the modified DP. This is the easiest way that I have found to create new themes. It's also possible through the psconsole GUI, but it's very cumbersome.
