openSparc for other platforms?
Hello,
today I saw the mail from the mailing-list and immediately download the package.
I find it great to have a look in the implementation of a big processor-family.
But unfortunately the package is only for the Solaris platform. Because I'm a student, I do not have my own Sparc-System. Is it planned to port the Release to Linux?
Or does it run on an x86s Solaris?
Anyway, I think it's really a great thing to open the design of a processor!
Keep up your effort for open-source!
Bye

Can you give any link/ contact info?
Thanks.

Linux: Linus T pulled Dave Miller's initial Linux port for UltraSPARC T1 back into the master Linux tree on March 21.See http://vger.kernel.org/~davem/cgi-bin/blog.cgi for Dave Miller's blog, where he reports that and talks about other experiences during the port.
FreeBSD: Kip Macy seems to be working on a FreeBSD port.See http://bsdnews.com/view_story.php3?story_id=5465 .
Others: I've heard rumors of other OS ports in various stages of process, but don't have URLs handy to substantiate the rumors.

Hello,
thank your for your help. I'm aware, that there are several people oprtin other operating systems to the UltraSPARC T1, but actually I'm interested in a Linux/x86 release of the OpenSparc Architecture tools (SAM, Legion, Shade ....). As far as I know, they all require a SPARC CPU with Solaris.
Is there any work ongoing in this direction?
Maybe the only way to get these tools running on Linux/x86 is by using Qemu etc ...

I second that.
I would also very much like to see a x86 port of the development tools. Although I would prefer a Linux port, I would be more than happy to run the tools through Solaris 10 for x86 on Xen.
One other thing, from having browsed the architecture tools source it appears as though only SAM is distributed in source-code form; legion appears to be in binary form only ($(SW_HOME)/legion). Are there any plans of open the legion source code?
Thanks,
Stephen
