A1000 array cache battery replacement

Have several A1000 that are two years old or older. Do you have to shut down the system to change the battery. Is it considered the user's responsibility to purchase and replace or is it normally covered under warranty or maintenance contract? Any input would be helpful. Thanks

AFAICR, you don't have to power it down to replace the battery. Look at the maintenance docs on sunsolve (there should be a link off the infodocs on sunsolve's system handbook): http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-9-73379-1

O well -- looks like I was wrong -- the doc says you have to shut down the host machine connected to the A1000

Thanks I did find the Doc. Thanks again for your reply.

Also (forgot that part of your question):

I've seen support these battery change reqs in the past if you have a valid support contract for the host that uses the Array. Best bet is to call in a ticket with Sun and then have them tell you whether it is supported or not.

Unless it's hopelessly EOSL, they usually do send in replacement parts per contractual agreement.

Yeah, they're designed to do hot-swap on the battery. In fact I know many admins that still do that on their out-of-support models.

But sun had a number of failures in the field when this was done in the past (very low as a percentage, but still quite a few). So the current procedure requires the shutdown.
