NewB so don't be mad if this isn't the right forum
Where to start...I have been asked by my manager to own or support Java Runtime Environment within our organization. FUN!
Some background on my Java skills...very little I know that Java is required by some web pages in order to view their content. I have worked with Sun support and installed and uninstalled some problem installs, not a big deal.
We have the ability to run software reports on our AD structure for enterprise reporting. Problem I'm running into is there are so many different version of the J2RE currently being ran plus our developers using SDK's as well. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with this task but I'm willing to learn about this application.
So many questions and I'm not sure if I'm asking the right ones. Any recommendations or helpful hints would be so greatly appreciated!
1. Can or should I try to get all of my current Windows clients running the same versions of the J2RE or SDK?
2. If this isn't possible; what is a recommended patching strategy? This is a high priority since the organization has never formally did any patching prior to me being asked to monitor for updates, patches, etc.
3. Are the online training courses provided by Sun too "advanced" for someone with little or no experience?
I look forward to any help anyone has to offer.
