How do I get the javac, jar, etc. commands to show up in dos

I think you may have posted your question to the wrong forum. This one is dedicated to discussion about the Sun Java Desktop System, which is the desktop environment associated with Solaris 10, whereas your mention of "dos" seems to indicate that you are installing the Java 2 SE in a Windows environment.

I would suggest you post your question again in the Java Runtime Environment forum located at http://forum.java.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=32. Incidentally, getting executables to be available in a prompt environment usually boils down to adding the directory containing the files to the PATH environment variable for the user.
