telnet problem

hi all,

i am not sure if this is the right place to post such a question, but i cannot find a more suitable thread.

My question is i cannot telnet to my sun machine which is installed with solaris 8. During the telnet, the user name prompt shows up correctly. But after i type the user name, the connection is closed aotumatically before the prompt of passwd shows up. The msg is " the connection is closed by the foreign machine".

I have rebooted the machine for several times and inet.d is running properly. Is anyone familiar with this kind of problem?
