problem with patch 121119-06 (sun updatemanager new version 1.0.4)

hi,

on a newly installed solaris10(01/06) i ran "updatemanager", installed some of the available

updates. after a reboot when i ran updatemanager again but it showed the number of available updates as zero which is wrong since i had'nt installed all of the available updates in the last run.

on a hunch i removed patch 121119-06 which reverted updatemanager to the previous version 1.0 and now its showing all the available updates.

is there a problem with patch 121119-06 ?

thanks,

girish

I posted this in another thread in this forum and it worked for me. 121118 is for SPARC, 121119 is for x86 so translate accordingly.

OK, this just worked for me. I'm using Solaris 10 01/06. I don't seem to have this problem on any servers running the original Solaris 10 release.

remove all patches that start with 121118 so you're only using the smpatch that came with Solaris 10

smpatch update

init 6

Once the server comes back up, smpatch analyze will probably fail again.

patchrm 121118-06

smpatch analyze

You'll probably find about 5-6 packages that still need to be installed

smpatch update

init 6

Once the server is rebooted, smpatch analyze. For me, everything worked fine.

I just did this successfully on 4 T2000's running Solaris 10 01/06

Good luck.

Marc

Hi,

Sorry, my solaris system is completely screwed up right now (due to some other problem) and needs to be reinstalled. I am afraid I can't provide the information you have requested but will let know when I have reinstalled the OS.

I forgot to mention that I don't have a service plan. Is that somehow connected to the problems I am having (smc also fails after patching), perhaps an unsolved patch dependency?

regards,

girish

Having a service plan which covers software will enable you to retrieve non-security updates. Not having such a plan should not cause any problems like you are seing, but you would see less available patches.Let us know your situation once your re-install is complete.
