updatemanager not showing any patches since upgrade

Hi,

I just installed the following patches on my system (in order):

121435-02

121081-05

121118-06

122231-01

120335-04

I previously had the standard updatemanager and smpatch from a Solaris 10 3/05 install.

Before installing the above patches, I had 55 updates showing. Since installing the patches (to update the smpatch and Sun Update Connection software), updatemanager reports that there are no patches to be installed.

I know for a fact that there are at least 50 patches that need to be applied. Is there some sort of extra config I need to do? Why is is reporting that no patches or updates are required?

thanks,

Rob

There should be no extra configuration required.Does 'smpatch analyze' also show that no patches are available?

Can I check that you have registered this system? The following command should print an Asset ID if the system was registered,$ /usr/lib/cc-ccr/bin/ccr -g cns.assetid

I ran the command and I get the following output:-127727012Not sure if that is what was supposed to happen. Any further help would be appreciated. I am guessing I have to re-register the system.thanks.Message was edited by: robert_appleby

Re-registering the host is a logical next step. Please run the following:# /usr/lib/cc-ccr/bin/ccr -r cns.assetidto de-register, and then run Update Manager again to re-register.

Tried that and I still have the same problem.

I have also noticed that in update manager under the Updates Collection: dropdown box there are two entries:

1. Current Available Updates (This is the one that I have always used and where I expect the patches to be listed as before).

2. Sun Ultra 45 Required (What is this? I actually have a SunFire V250)

Maybe some config required here?

Note: I do not want to use the remote management. I just want to use the GUI to find the patches and then I go and download them and install manually using smptach or patchadd.

"Currently Available Updates" and "Sun Ultra 45 Required" are seperate collections. This is planned to be expanded in the future to include other "collections" so you can be more specific in your choice of patches to upgrade, i.e. Security Only Patches.

Current Available Updates is the correct choice for yourself.

If I could see the configuration of smpatch on this system, please run:

# smpatch get

and post the results.

I have the same exact problem. I have the case in support now. If I am able to fix I'll post here. Also following what is recommended to you.

Problem is now fixed!

I was forced to shutdown and power-cycle the server yesterday due to an upgrade of an ALOM card. Since the machine has been restarted, updatemanager is now working as it should.

I would suggest power-cycling the machine if you have not already as this is the only thing we have done on this server since installing the updatemanager patches.

Hold the Phone!

I fired up update manager this morning and as usual it was displaying all the patches we need to update, however I knew of a patch released between the last time I ran updatemanager (successfully) and this morning, so I clicked the button to Check for Updates again.

To my frustration, it has reverted back to the same old problem - nothing is displayed, even running smpatch analyze results in no patches needed.

I don't want to have to reboot the machine again top see if it will start working again....

Any Ideas?

Could you try deleting the detectors.jar files in the /var/sadm/spool/cache/ directory and rerunning the analysis.# rm /var/sadm/spool/cache/*detectors.jar*# smpatch analyze

I think I'm having a very similar problem, after an update, updatemanager stops showing any available updates. This has been an on-going problem. Curiously, I've been able to solve this by removing patch 121118-06.

We have some support cases open for this problem which is currently under investigation. Once we have a resolution, or if we need more information, we will post an update to this thread.

We have received confirmation from the engineering team regarding one cause of this issue:

This is caused by the metadata associated with patch 118777-06. The

patch metadata (as below) contains a "legal Patch_Requires expression"

but due to bug in PatchPro, it fails when encountering this record:

118777<!>06<!>SunOS 5.10: Sun GigaSwift Ethernet 1.0 driver

patch<!>sparc<!>SunOS<!>5.10<!>(if haspackage SUNWtrku

1.3,REV=2005.06.14.5.10; then echo 121181-01; fi)

<!><!><!><!><!>Software.GigaSwiftEthernet.sun4u.5 .10-1.0

Software.GigaSwiftEthernet.Header.5.10-1.0<!><!>rebootafter clientroot

clientusr<!><!>496152<!>20060620<!><!>

As such no patches are being recommended when:

smpatch analyze

Is being run.

A change request has been rasied to fix this issue.

The fix for this will be released with client patch 121118-09

However the workaround for this is to download the offending patch

either from SunSolve or as below:

smpatch download -f -i 118777-06

And apply it either using smpatch add:

smpatch add -i 118777-06

Or patchadd:

patchadd /<path_to_patch>/118777-06
