Patch 120222-01 not working with Updatemanager
Patch 120222-01 , an Emulex patch, shows up as being needed on my Sun Blade 1500 even though I do not have an Emulex card in the box. If I ask Updatemanager to install the patch, it attempts to do so, and says the patch is queued for the next shutdown. I reboot, run check for updates, and the patch is still there as being needed on the system.
This patch description (like in the former patchxref file) must not have the correct dependencies specified.
Perhaps we need the ability to mark a patch as 'ignore' ?

What is the command you are using to reboot your computer? You must use either init or shutdown. The reboot command will not apply the patch.
# 2
I used init 6
However, my main concern is that this patch shouldn't be shown as being needed on my system at all. I do not have an Emulex card at all. And, if I attempt to apply the patch manually, I get:

So, why is this patch continuing to show up as needing to be applied?

Thanks for reporting this issue. Our patch metadata team is currently aware of this problem. One of the detectors had incorrectly recommended the system state that patch 120222-01 and 120223-01 should correct. This problem is in the process of being corrected.

Rebooting using "shutdown" or "init 6" is absolutely necessary.
My displays for the Sun Update Manager had bad graphic results saying that the patch would be applied at reboot. It never happened until I rebooted this way. I thought that the boxes should have checkboxes so I could de-select them as well. It didn't match my graphical expectations.
Of course, I never read the acrobat manuals. I was just experimenting with the UpdateManager dynamically.

The Update Manager explicitly says in the Installation Summary dialog that you cannot use the reboot command to install restart required updates and that you must instead use either init or shutdown if you elect to restart outside of the Update Manager.-Dave

Same as the orginal post, I am wondering if there is anyway to tell update manager to ignore some patch so it doesn't show up?
I come across this problem when I try to do the latest patch updates to my Blade 100 thru update manager, which keep reporting that I will need a patch for T2000, and of course it cannot be installed, but it still keep coming up everytime!
There are following patches that I cannot install as well, which are related to update connection client and zone,
1. 121081-06
2. 120335-04
3. 122231-01
4. 121118-11
5. 118731-01
6. 122660-08
For 6 above, it's always comes up in disallowed_patch_list, and I've done the install in single user mode and has no error, but still cannot actually install after the reboot.
As for the others, I've tried all in single user mode, update manager etc, and none works, with no error. I am using init 6 to reboot the box afterward.
Also I am not using zone, and I am happy with the current update manager (it's the same version as 4 above, which is 1.0.9, so I am wondering if I already at the latest version already?), I just want to mark them as ignore (similar to Windows Update's hidden feature), but I can't find a way to set this up.
Anyone has idea on how to create the ignore list?

I've addressed each of the patches you mentioned individually below (although it does sound as though there may be problems with the patch/pkg db on the system so i'd suggest raising a case to get that looked at).
On the "ignore patch" feature, I believe that it was considered and a RFE has been logged for it (though i'm not able to locate it at this time) but that due to some internal changes it wasnt implemented as yet. It's still very much out there though so it wouldnt surprise me to see it in a future release....but for now, there is no ignore feature.
1. 121081-06
Install in single user mode - Bug open for this. This will need to be installed manually until the metadata and readme files are updated approriately.
2. 120335-04
Not aware of any problems with this patch. What errors do you get when attempting to install? Does it apply manually using patchadd?
3. 122231-01
Again i'm not aware of any issues with this patch though did come accross a previous report of a customer that had problems installing it due to a corrupted /var/sadm/install/contents file. Again would need to see errors and verification of whether it installs manually or not.
4. 121118-11
Definately no issues with this patch as it's the latest version of the SunUC toolset. Same points as #2 and #3 apply here
5. 118731-01
Again no issues that i'm aware of, notes above apply here too
6. 122660-08
Again no issues that i'm aware of, notes above apply here too

As mentioned before, all are being try in single user mode with manual install. NO error comes on the console, and no susccessful applied message. Seems like it's just ignroe it. The package, after manual install, is still in /var/sadm/spool under jar.dir (so it's expanded). When I run update manager again, it still listed as available update.
Anywhere else I can see the error?

Please try to install the individual patches in single user mode using patchadd and not smpatch. If you still run into problems then download the unsigned patches from sunsolve and attempt to apply them in the same way. If this fails post the output and we will take it from there.
