How to create local collections?

If we can't get on the network, and want to install locally downloaded patches, how do he build a local "collection"?I've got a patch in /opt/patches, (in jar format), but how to I build a local collection out of it?TIA

If you have a patch already downloaded then just install it from the command line with smpatch or patchadd. You cannot currently create your own collections. For clients that don't have internet acess you may want to look at installing a Sun Update Connection Proxy which can then cache a collection of downloaded patches. Your clients could then be config'd to get their updates for the local Sun Update Connection Proxy inside of your firewall.

It seems I have a similar issue. I have a system with a slow dial-up connection. So I created a list of required patches using "smpatch analyze" and tried to download these patches on another system using "smpatch -d /patch_dir -x idlist=/patch_dir/list.txt". I just got the reply "No patches required". Is it completely impossible to down load patches on another system?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

It is possible to configure a Sun Update Connection Proxy (used to be called Local Patch Server). All Updates will be downloaded to the Sun Update Connection Proxy and all systems can access the updates via the LAN

See "Configuring a Sun Update Connection Proxy" in the Sun Update Manager 1.0 Administration Guide

I've run into the issue of network connectivity and patching myself, where an Update Connection Proxy isn't an option. It would be great if it were possible to create a CD-ROM with analysis data and patches that can be used for highly restricted hosts.

Sun currently does not create CDs that could be used for this purpose unfortunately.

Sun Update Connection Onsite Edition, which is currently in development, will provide a mechanism strongly related to this that may satisfy your needs.

If you are interested you may be able to become part of the early test group. Please send an email to rsc-forum-inbound@Sun.COM with your email address if you would like to join the test group.
