Update Manager - Installation - Package Name - Dist?

Hello,

I'm using Solaris 10 x86.

In an effort to reclaim disk space, I removed all of the GNOME packages. Now, I want to use the SUN Connection Update --> http://www.sun.com/service/sunupdate/, which requires that the Update Manager be installed.

According to the documentation at --> 835-0615.pdf, the Update Manager is installed with Solaris 10. However, my system is neither installed with the installation software -> "/usr/bin/swup_boots" nor command line utility " -> "/usr/bin/updatemanager".

I assume the Update Manager software was removed with GNOME. So, I don't what GNOME but I do want Update Manager. How can I reinstall? What is the Package name and can it be found on the Solaris 10 distribution? On Sun's download site?

Once again, I just performed the download and ran the installation script, unfortunately the "patchadd" terminiated without success. I then ran "showrev -p" and patch 119575-01 is not present. The installation and "showrev" output are below.

So it appear that this patch 119575-01, requires so other dependancies --

I look forward to someone's response.

The Update Manager does require Gnome (for better or worst) in order to install and run. This is due to using JDIC (Java Desktop Integration Components). Is it still absent from the system?Frederic

I'm not sure why 119575-01 is not installing but you might wanna try

119575-02 and then adding 119108-02 manually.

119575-02 is available at

After that:

# patchadd 119575-02

# cd <location of update connection>/updateConnection/patches

# patchadd 119108-02

Update Manager does use Gnome for its Update Notification mechanism but it does not explicitly require it to be present. If not present, notification will just not work. Missing Gnome pkgs should not cause the patchadd to fail.

Also Update Manager is not part of Solaris 10. Nor is swup_boots. If any documentation states that, its wrong. Update Manager won't be integrated into Solaris until S10u1. Where did you get the document you refer to?

As for the patchadd failure, is there a log file with more detail under /var/sadm/patch?

Thanks for the input -- however, I attempted to install the -02 patch and got a SEG FAULT
