updatemanager won't run remotely

I can use updatemanager when logged into the console but from my remote host all i see is one very long bar accross the screen. I'm using vtwm and it looks like updatemanager doesn't work with any other window manager than the native one. Does anyone know about this?

Thanks,

I've noticed updatemanager "flashes" onto the screen then disapears. I've tried it with several window managers. I can't believe no one else is having this problem.

I've not tried to use updatemanager in this fashion, when I do use it remotely, I've used something like VNC with great success... I'm not sure if you are willing to consider setting something like that up, but I've found it works fairly well.

Actually, the development team has been using VNC many, many times a week over the life of this project to perform group integration testing and demos.

I have used X Windows to drive Update Manager remotely in some scenarios. Have you tried launching updatemanager through a terminal? Did you get an error message?

No errors, just a brief flash on the screen followed by a long horizontal bar. This is over a standard X connection using any window manager (I've tried vtwm and Exceed).Steve

I use Windows XP and CygWin with XFree86 installed on it on the client machine, and then connect to the remote host using SSH with X-Windows tunneling enabled (putty). When I start update manager the display looks fine. The only problem I ran into was that BACKSPACE didn't work. So I had to make sure I didn't use it when entering my username and password to register as. But everything else you do on that program has no typing so it has worked fine.

Update Manager is a Java Swing application that should have no issues remotely displaying to other X servers. I have no problem even remotely displaying it on Mac OS X. Can you remotely display other java swing apps?
