Unistallation of Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.1,9

Hi,

I had two Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition Installations on my Windows XP Home Edition.

One was 8.1 and another one was Edition 9 Beta(build32).

Unfortunately I had installed version 9 of the same without upgrading the version 8.1.

When I tried to uninstall the version 9.0 the unistalling wizard started and was hanging there without continuing.

After seeing this I tried uninstalling version 8.1. The result was the same the wizard was simply there without continuing.

I deleted the folder "C:\Sun\AppServer". And tried re-installing but in vain

After reading the Instructions in the NetBeans Forum, I tried removing the "productregistry" file in the C:\Windows\system32, deleting the entries in the "Sun Microsystems" key in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE., deleting the <User Home>\ .imq .asadmin...

But in vain. What am I doing wrong here?

Kindly let me know a way so that I can delete the App Server PE from my System and do a fresh installation.

Thanks and Regards

Bharath

So, can you provide detailed description of what is exactly happening when you attempt to install new installation (and which version are you now trying to install)?

But please describe what problems *exactly* are you running into while trying to install these two versions? Please list any error messages or other messages issued by installer since it is quite unclear from your original post what is going wrong.

Hi,

Here is the detailed description of my problem.

OS: Win XP Home Edition

1.) I had an 8.1 PE of Sun Java System App Server in my D:\Sun\AppServer.

2.) I saw the Beta version of Sun Java System App Server version 9 PE and installed this in C:\Sun\Appserver (without unistalling the 8.1)

3.)Now when I tried to uninstall the version 9 PE (Beta) the wizard didnt do anything so I killed the wizard.

4.) I now tried to uninstall the 8.1 PE version from D:\Sun, the unistalling wizard didnt do anything.

5.) So I deleted the D:\Sun\AppServer and C:\Sun\Appserver directories.

6.) Now when I try to install either of them, the installation wizard will do nothing after I select the directory in which It should Install the App Server.

7.) I checked in google and it showed a NetBeans workaround which said to remove the file productregistry from the C:\windows\system32.

8.) I did the step 7 and found an entry "Sun Microsystems" in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the windows registry and deleted it.

9.) When I now try to install any of the App Server version (8.1 or 9) the installation wizard doesnt do anything after the "Next" Button is clicked after selecting the directory in which it has to be installed.

Kindly let me know what am I doing wrong here.

Regards

Bharath.

OK, based on this it seems that you have a leftover productregistry access lock file. To resolve the issue please take at look at the second item in this article and follow the instructions: http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Projects/WinHang
