Setting up a web store

Hi forum,

maybe this is off topic and maybe it's a naive question, sorry in advance for that.

A friend of mine wants to set up and online business and would like to create a website where people can order products. It's a _small_ business (two people), O (5000$) capital.

Having had no exposure to "real world" business, I was wondering if there's something which allows to enter the merchandise in a database, which then displays on the website, you get the orders somehow, administrate your client database, etc.

I browsed the Sun pages a bit, but got a bit swamped in "leveraging synergies", "reduce time to market" and "vertically integrate customer satisfaction".

Any hints?

Thanks, Peter.

You can look into Java petstore, which is an application selling pets like birds, fishes, etc. http://java.sun.com/blueprints/code/jps132/docs/index.html
