Solaris 10 - X server doesn`t start - error : Hung in XOpenDisplay

<I apologize for replicating the post. The previous has a wrong title >

I installed Solaris 10 rel. 03/05 on a Ultra 60 (2x360) Elite3D with 256 MB

The installation went perfectly (I reinstalled 2 times the second time formatting the HD)

The dt login doesn`t start

even setting /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e doesn`t work

/usr/dt/bin/dtlogin -daemon; exit

don`t work too

It seems there is a problem running the xserver.

the name of the machine was set to `Ultra60` and the domain to a dummy `nonexistantdomain.com`

this machine has not a true domain name.

looking at /var/dt/Xerrors

reports:

error : Hung in XOpenDisplay

and

Error : Server open attempt #! failed for : 0

(on Solaris 6 - 8 - 9 ) I never had any trouble using sun hardware from sparc 5 to blade 1000

I think many people will have the same exact troube...

any suggestion to fix this?

Thanks

I don't have anything useful for you other than you are not alone. It appears everyone is on x86 Solaris and having different issues from us Sparcs.

Looks like there is bad display configuration, why not try the kdmconfig commnad and try to reconfig the display.

I don't know if it helps. But I had problems with the x-server not starting (didn't even get a gui login just command line) re-setting the network properties seemed to fix it, looks like anything dodgy in the network config stuffs up the start up proceedure.
