Ultra 80 vs Blade 2000

Hi !

I wish to know performance differences between the two following configurations:

a) Ultra 80 / 4 x 450 Mhz / 4 GB Ram / XVR-1000

b) Blade 2000 / 2 x 1015 MHz / 4 GB Ram / XVR-1000

Is the performance difference worth the upgrade from the Ultra 80 to the Blade 2000 ?

Thanks a lot and have a nice day,

It depends on the application you are using, but the blade has faster memory and system throughput. The blade also supports faster internal disks and bigger sizes.

Hi!

Thsnk you for your answer <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

I plan to use it for compilation and every day use as a desktop computer.

In the mean time I want it to be able to run Oracle and an Application Server (JEE).

Thanks a lot!

For a personal desktop and application development the Blade would perform much better than an Ultra 80. The Blade has bigger L2 cache, faster memory and faster drives. The main performance advantage from the Ultra 80 is the 4 CPUs, so if your application was threaded with multiple clients accessing it you should get very good performance.
