sunblade 100: can't boot anymore

Hi,

First of all excuse my poor english.

I have a hudge problem with my sun.

context:

i get a sunblade few days ago (i'm new to sun's world) and it was used to work perfectly.

I've installed a Solaris 10 on it to test it.

But.. when i've decided to use ./installer on the 3rd CD-ROM of solaris 10 and install it, the OS has freezed for a long long long time (mouse still move but OS doesn't react anymore). i decided to do a Stop-A and power-off the sunblade.

As the sun was a second hand, i was asking myself if the CD reader was in good health and i decided to change it. I then open the sun, change the CD (and see it was perfectly builded and easy to access hardware, but anyway that's another story..).

And here is my problem.

problem:

When i boot my sunblade i'm stuck in the OpenBoot.

It says that it can't open boot device (<a href="mailto:ide&#64;d" target="_blank">ide@d</a>/disk0,0).

When i try to "boot cdrom" it says the same....

When i obdiag/test 6 everything pass.

When i test /<a href="mailto:pci&#64;1" target="_blank">pci@1</a>,f/<a href="mailto:ide&#64;d" target="_blank">ide@d</a>/disk0,0 everything's ok.

When i test-all it seems to stuck at the usb test (but well i can't figure myself why, if usb was wrecked, it can't boot anymore).

Mouse was working like a charm, and my keyboard still works.

I tried to "boot disk0, disk1, etc... whithout any luck.

When i "cd /pci.../disk" and do a "ls" it's empty (as for the cd-rom with a cd inside)

Does the sunblade dead ? i don't think so but, as i was saying, i'm new to sun's world... Does the eeprom was flushed and returned to default param ? I'm really lost and can't find help on internet.

I then hope someone could help me here.

in desperate times... you have a Sun keyboard? if so, start the box, while holding down the Stop and the N keys until it posts. see what happens..

I imagine you didn't move jumpers on the cdrom and the cdrom is on a different ide cable than the hard drive?

I try to stay away from ide-related Sun products... the U5/U10/Sun Blades.... but, cdroms, ide and scsi, seem to want to die at a moments notice...

Well... i got an SUN keyboard, but STOP-N does nothing while booting. It just write a lot of 'n' under openboot (i've pressed the keys while booting, not at openboot prompt).

I finally change the drive (harddrive and cdrom) and everything went ok !

You right, i should use SCSI ! As soon as possible i will install that.

Anyway, thank you a lot, i was afraid to loose my new little sun.

I can now go on with my tests.

Thanks again
