Ultra 5 - Asked many times!!

I have searched these forums and found similar issues. I have tried a lot of the suggestions that were in these forums but I am still not making any progress.

Got an Ultra 5 OBP 3.25. The machine boots all the way up and seems ok it just keeps giving the message "IDPROM CONTENTS INVALID". The banner shows the Hostid: 834d3df3 and Ethernet Adress:0:3:ba:4d:3d:f3. This looks good. There are no fff's in the hostid.

At the ok> prompt if I type the following:

ok>nvramrc

It just returns me to the ok> prompt

Also if I type watch-clock the time seems to be updating indicating that the battery is ok.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

nvramrc may not be available... type help at the ok> then help diag

I think... I have been away from Sun boxen for a while (or I am getting too old...) but the help command gives you options to enable the nvramrc command... you just have to find it...

sorry, I don't mess around toooo much with U5s... but try it.

Just on the off-chance that some minor OBP setting has become corrupted and thus doesn't quite run correctly ...

Do you have any custom device paths ?

... any custom OBP settings for video resolution ?

any metadevices for a mirrored second disk crammed into the chassis ?

Anything you might want to save and re-create after the prom is cleared ?

(If yes, then copy them to pen-and-paper.)

Then do:

<b> OK set-defaults

OK reset-all</b>

That will clear most everything back to factory defaults and reboot the system.

Any different behavior afterwards?

Hmmmm ...

Well, I just attempted a generic search of <a href="http&#58;&#47;&#47;sunsolve.sun.com" target="_blank">Sunsolve</a>, using "<i>idprom contents</i>" as the keywords.

Results showed a number of Spectrum-only documents, mostly bug reports, but ...

The latest OBP patch ReadMe file seems to include a bug-fix for that syndrome. There were perhaps a half-dozen different OBP patch updates among the search results.

Hmmm...all the same glitch, fixed with their latest patches ?

The Ultra-5/Ultra-10 OBP patch is # 106121

It's a free download from Sunsolve.

Perhaps try to update your systemboard firmware, since it is a tiny bit down-rev ?

The last OBP version was 3.31.The .idprom (that's dot-idprom) command shows all the values in the PROM.It may be that the checksum is bad in which case there's a comand from the NVRAM FAQ:"0 f 0 do i idprom@ xor loop f mkp"
