Balde 2000 should be fine in a rack, but be careful that the rack has decent airflow through it.

As you most likely already know, the Blade 2000s run very hot. Just put your hand near the rear fans.

I have many dual CPU 2000s and cooler is better.

The cabinet better have good ventilation !!!

I have burned out RAM and Video cards with Plenty of ventilation and good ambient room temps. Also ensure the PROM is updated to ensure fans operate at nonimal speeds. There was a PROM problem with the older Blade 1000s, but was corrected with an update.

BE CAREFUL!

Good luck.

OBP 4.5.16 is installed. Looking at the release notes for the latest OBP 4.16.4 I couldn't find any mention of changes to fan speed.

Thanks.

I would just like to follow up on the comments made by bits45:

Our Blade 1000s and Ultra 80s are installed in Sun StorEdge 72" racks ( A5200 front door ), but are installed in a dry, cool warehouse constant @ roughly 21 degrees C which is not difficult to maintain. The recommended operating temperature from the SSH is bellow 35 degrees C. In any commercial data centre the recorded temperature readings over 24/48 hours may be completely inaccurate, many of the temperature sensors are located far from the systems installed in the rack. When I am making a statistical analysis of any HVAC system servicing a data centre I completely ignore output from BMS or FMS systems and instead use calibrated temperature probes inside the rack. Mysterious reboots have been traced to hot spots in a rack ( + 45 degrees C on the positive side ). These hot spots exist because of turbulance in airflow within the data center or rack. The only true way to eliminate these hot spots is by using a laminar bay scenario ( such as those found in semi conductor manufacturing Fujitsu, IBM or Intel ) or forcing the air directly through the racks into an exhaust void/duct, the later being the norm for a data centre. Thinking again about the original post, I can envisage an enlosed glass door cabinet designed to protect the computer from industrial chemicals of some sort, such a cabinet would not be suitable for use with a Sun workstation or server.

Chester, the latest firmware patch outlines the bugs that are resolved if you look at the readme for patch 118323-01 section Problem description you can see more details on the bugs.
