V240 appears to be dead - no ok> prompt

Hello,

I have what appears to be a hardware issue, and before I spend a ton of money trying to get it repaired, I was hoping that someone might have some insight (I suspect the system board):

This is the screen that I get (notice there is no ok> prompt)

<console screen>

Trying 1xx.xx.xx.xxx...

Connected to 1xx.xx.xx.xxx.

Escape character is '^]'.

SC Alert: Host system has shut down.

SC Alert: Host System has Reset

Sun(tm) Advanced Lights Out Manager 1.0 (servera)

Please login:

Serial line login timeout, returns to console stream.

Enter #. to return to ALOM.

Also, the light in the upper left hand corner never comes on. The lights on the back w/ power cables and the front disk drives and cdrom lights do come on. Not the upper left light.

No login or password were ever assigned to the ALOM. I can not seem to get an sc> prompt or an ok> prompt to go any further.

Thanks for any insight before I spend lots of money...

http://docs.sun.com/source/817-5481-11/configure.htmlALOM has a default account named admin. At the login prompt, type admin and it should prompt you to create a passwd for it. Then you should get the sc> prompt.

The output you provide doesn't show any error, other than it looks like you aren't typing anything at the ALOM login, or maybe you are trying to connect to the ETHERNET MGT port before you configure it through the SERIAL port first...

You are not going to see an OK or SC prompt until you log into the ALOM

... may want to fully read the instructions...

.. may want to describe the whole setup and what are you typing ; ex; using minicom as terminal enulator connecting to the serial por, when I type 'admin" I don't get an echo...

I can't log into the ALOM, I don't have a user login or a password. As far as I know, none was ever created. After two minutes it just times out. That's oK, I believe the issue is a hardware problem with the system board.Thanks.

What happens when you type admin at the login prompt? Are you connected to the serial or the ethernet port?
