Sizing Jumpstart

I need to have a jumpstart server that can scale to a dozen simultaneous jumpstart installs. How big of a server do I need?

The only thing that's slightly heavy about doing multiple simultaneous jumpstarts is the NFS traffic.

How simultaneous? Start them by hand or have them synchronized to the second. I can imagine rarpd or in.tftpd might lose a few times if it gets hit with a burst of requests at once...

I've done 20 simultaneous jumpstarts off of a Sparc 10 that was doing other things at the same time. Now it wasn't particularly *fast*, mind you at 10Mb/s, but nothing broke.

As long as the server can push NFS data out the port fast enough for you, you should be set. Even a low-end machine can be very functional here.

Ultra2 with two CPU's is enough.May be you need 100Mbps link.

Maybe?! I'd say surely 100 Mbits! With a preference towards 1 Gbit actually...

1 GB on U2 may overload the CPU's than helping. You can use V210 which has 4 gigabit ports.
