How to upgrade NIC from ce to bge?

Hi,

It may seem a newbie question, yet please do help me, I have no idea how to figure it out......

My manager want me to upgrade the NICs on both V240 and V440 servers from ce to bge. I am not sure whether the current ce NICs support bge standard or not. Can someone highlight me on this?

Can I just change the hosts file and host.ce to host.bge to upgrade the NIC card? Or do I need to get a new NIC from him which supports bge standard?

What's more, I saw the number "10 100 1000" above the V240 and V440 network socket, so I suppose the current NIC should support link speed at 1000mbps which is gigabyte. Am I right on this?

Lastly, I found that ce NIC is also able to support 1000mbps speed. So what is the advantage of bge NIC over the ce NIC?

Hi

man bge

bge - SUNW,bge Gigabit Ethernet driver for Broadcom BCM5704

man ce

ce - Cassini Gigabit-Ethernet device driver

So - bge and ce -drivers for two different network chips.

Both support 10/100/1000 Mode.

On v240 install chip with bge driver

On v440 install chip with ce driver

Sun have additional Gigabit ethernet card X4150A

wiht chips driver ce

I don't know optional card with chips driver bge.
