ksh: bad file unit number. when login to a sun-Fire os 5.8

Every couple of days when I log all my windows will hang.

Finally, I will get a message: ksh: bad file unit number. Then, my session will

act funny, i.e. when I use the up arrow to run previous commands, it will only

show me commands ran the previous day or seemingly random characters. Also,

when I try to execute certain commands such as comdb start scripts or

"ls -l | more" I get an error message back "too many files". Please help
