solaris certification

I am thinking about becoming a sun certified solaris administrator. I would like to know if the current job market would need me to also have a bachelors degree in CS.

Do you think that a SCSA( maybe also a SCNA and SCSECA ) certification are enough crudentials to get a good job in the Solaris job market?

Thank you.

Hi Being an sun certified system admin myself the certification helps you in getting your resume short listed for interview it depends on how well you do in your interview, the unix work experience what you have helps a lot.

As has been said:

Certifications will not land you the job, but they will most certainly make sure that you don't get dumped of the pile immediately.

Most employers really do tend to put more value on things as experience and your eagerness and ability to learn new things.

Also, regarding the bachelor's degree. I don't think that your major has a _really_ big influence as long as its in the IT sector. The degree itself will make a difference though, due to the fact that it shows you are capable of thinking, studying and working at a certain level.

...it depends on the type of job you are aiming at... my personal experience is that certificates only make the guy who's giving you the technical interview want to fail you... again, my personal experience is that employers want to know what have you done in the field, what hw/sw you've touched, whether you are willing to carry the on call pager or not, etc...

..on the other hand, there are contracting firms that want to have people with ceritifications so they can advertize a "fully certified staff" and have lower liability insurance costs...

Actually... At my employer we use a list of standard technical questions pertaining to a lot of different parts of the OS to see what kind of guy the potential employee is.

If he or she claims on his/her resume to have knowledge of A, B and C and certification on X and Y then he'd damn well better give the right answers to the questions :)

What you usually do is contact Sun Education and purchase an exam voucher from them. After payment has been received the will send you a slip of paper (the voucher), which has a number printed on it..This number is the one you need to enter on the Prometric website.
