display problem, nvidia graphics card

I am running solaris 9 on x86. I installed a new nvidia graphics card (GeForce 6600GT), and my display doesn't show up anymore. I tried using KDMconfig to chose a new graphics card. I selected XF86-VESA, and also tried NVIDIA GeForce.

I still get the error: "fatal error, cannot open /dev/fb/"

I am very new to solaris admin, any help is appreciated. thanks.

..it probably is that the OS doesn't know that the new hardware is installed. I work with SPARC, I'm not too familiar with x86, but I believe that prior to reboot, you get the option to reboot and have the system re-read the hardware.

I did hardware scan, but I have a feeling it is not detecting the hardware properly. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT. any clues?

..well, the HCL doesn't show that card at all, so more likely than not, it doesn't work with Solaris 9.. it does show other gForce cards, but the highest revision showing as working on Solaris 9 is an mx440. Doesn't show on Solaris 10 either... you may need to get another card.
