How to remove the firmware (OBP) password from SPARC machine

Hello!

I have a situation here. In our institute, we have a Lab having Sun SPARC stations, Ultras and ultras2.

A password on their firmware(open boot prom) is set, which does not allow us to do anything. And the list of passwords have been somewhat lost.

Is there any way that these passwords be removed. Somebody please help me......Desperate !

Hello again!

Now the complete situation is here as under:

We, at university have a lab having Sun SPARC stations, Ultras and ultras2. All these stations have been set to take authentication from NIS Domain, which currently is unavailable. So these stations after booting stuck to the point, from where onwards they need to contact the NIS Server. They just keep on repeating the error message, "hme0 Link down? Cable Problem?" Now we want that that either we install fresh copies of Solaris on them, or at least make these stations functional. This Lab has remained closed for more than 3 years. The previous Lab administrator had firmware and root passwords set on these machines, who has left the university. Now the passwords to these machines could not be found!

In my personal opinion, we need to first remove the firmware (OBP) password somehow, to boot the system from CDROM drive and therefore install Solaris OE, or at least in anyway remove the NIS option.

Now suggestions needed, and help required ................Please !!

Replace the NVRAM or system board or take a known good disk that you know the root password, from a similar system, and insert it in bad system. It should boot all the way up. You should then be able to eeprom security-mode=none.

Please refrain from posting the same question in multiple forums. Most of us read all the BigAdmin forums. Thank you.
