connecting 2 systems using cross over cable

Hi,

I m a newbie to sun admin, can somebody explain me how to connect two systems using cross over cable.

I have got one more question.

I tried to run a 3d solid modelling software on a sun system by remote logging in from another sun system both are which connected using LAN network. This software is openGL based. Though the command is executed and the process is started, its not showing the graphics window. Can somebody please help me to fix both these problems.

thanks

dennis

Just connect to crossed cable directory to the NIC (RJ-45) port and configure the IP info on each card and bring up the NIC interfaces on both machines.

Were there any error messages when you run the command like "Cannot connect to host". If so then you have to run xhost + on the client system. Also, have you set the DISPLAY variable to be that of the client system on the server system?

If running through a hub then there should be no great problem with the straight through ethernet connections, but if you are wanting to go direct to troubleshoot then the lads above have covered that (cross wires 1 & 3, 2 & 6)
