Attaching D1000 Array to Ultra 60.. HELP!
I'm trying to attach a D1000 Disk array to an Ultra 60. I have a PCI SCSI card instslled and the cable going from PortA on the card to "SCSI A" port, and the terminator on the 2nd port of A.
The Ultra 60 (no matter what I do) won't recognize the fact that there is a SCSI controller (other than the on board one) or that there are any more drives.
I'm not a sysadmin type person so I don't know where to start troubleshooting this..
HEEEELLPP!
thanks in advace.

What kind of PCI SCSI card do you have installed? The D1000 requires High Voltage Differential (HVD) and the D1000 requires a differential terminator on the end of the bus. The only Sun card for the Ultra 60 to control a D1000 is the X6541A, pn 375-0006. See: http://sunsolve.Sun.COM/handbook_pub/Systems/U60/components.html#SCSI
A terminator is not required on unused port of dual diff controller.
If you have the correct card and probe-scsi-all sees the drives then you need to "config" them in with
# drvconfig;disks
or in Solaris 8 & above
# devfsadm -c disks

Hi and thanks for the info.
I've got the right card (thank god for that!) and have looked at the docs to make sure that it is configured as per the instructions (All jumpers OPEN).
But when the card is inserted, it does not seem to be recognised (or am I missing something).
When I ; probe-scsi-all
I get:
/pci@1f,4000/scsi@3,1
/pci@1f,4000/scsi@3
Target 0
Unit 0DiskFujitsu MAB3091s SUN9.0G1705
Target 1
Unit 0DiskFujitsu MAB3091s SUN9.0G1705
Target 6
Unit 0Removable Read Only DeviceToshiba CD-ROM XM-5301TA1895
The three devices (T0,1,6) are all on the internal SCSI channel.
the SCSI cable is run from DIFFA on the card to the RIGHT side of SCSI A on the D1000 and the LEFT side of SCSI A is terminated. The disks are installed in ports 0-3 of the Right hand side of the Cabinet.
Any other suggestions? I'm getting nowhere fast here!!!!
Thanks again for the help.

Do you have a daisy-chain cable connecting the 2 middle SCSI connectors? If not move the terminator to the right half - next to the SCSI input cable sou you can at least see the right half of the D1000. The daisy-chain cable is require if all 12 disks need to be on the same SCSI bus.

Didn't have it that way around, but do now.. Still no luck in even seeing the card at OpenBoot time..
I'm going to go back to the vendor and try to get another card, but if there is anything else you can think of, let me know.. I've never had so much trouble configuring a card and disk tray..

I've been having a similar problem attaching the D1000 to two E250s. The card itself get's recognized (the PCI SCSI HBA) on both the systems, but the disks on the D1000 don't get recognized with a probe-scsi-all.
Could it be something to do with the Jumpers in the rear of the D1000?
thx.
Dwai.

Yes it is possible. Please see :
http://sunsolve.Sun.COM/handbook_pub/Devices/SCSI/SCSI_D1000_Diff_Ctlr.html
If you have the daisy-chain cable connecting the 2 middle SCSI connectors, SCSI cable on left, or right, side and terminator on other side, you would have a 15 target bus. If the left & right side were both set to be targets 0-5 or both set to be targets 8-13 then you would have duplicate SCSI targets on the same bus. If you have the D1000 "split" with two different controllers and terminators on the 2 middle SCSI connectors then it wouldn't make any difference as each "half" can each have targets 0-5 or 8-13.
In your case Dwai it looks like you are using split box configuration with 2 terminators.

Hey Thanks...I'm going to try this out today.I'll post the results in case of success/failure :}
# 8
tried out various combinations of the Jumper positions, but no use!
The SCSI HBA that I'm using shows up in a prtdiag as:
SYSPCI332scsi-pciclass,001000 Symbios,53C875
Shouldn't there be an entry with glm or something similar in there?
probe-scsi-all doesn't see any of the disks in the D1000.
Any help is welcome...
TIA,
Dwai.

I guess were gonna need the part # of the card you have installed. It must be HVD SCSI. The only Differential card supported by Sun for the D1000 is 375-006 and you must have Differential Terminator 150-1890. Also make sure Box ID Switch 2 on the D1000 is set to 0.

If the two E250's are meant to be part of a cluster that can see all internal D1000 disks then you will also need to change the SCSI ID for one of the cards. A quick way to test this is to disconnect one cable and put in a diff terminator and see if it works on one system, then vice versa for the other one.

Oh yeah, the card number should be 375-0006, Dual Differential Ultra/Wide SCSI.
