Layout File System question

I'm installing Solaris 8 install on an Ultra 5 machine that had 5.7.

I'm to the layout file system section of the install.

It says that the \swap isn't at the beginning of the drive, so I have to manually allocate the file system.

Everything is done in cylinders and I've not partitioned a drive this way before.

So, I'm not sure how to proceed.

I need to lay it out as follows (? indicate what should I put there?)

There is one hard drive:

dev: c0t0d0

cylinders: 39,533

sliceFile SysStartSize(cylinders)

====== =========================

0/(600mb)? ?

1swap (can't chng) 12484 1041

3/usr(1300mb)? ?

4/var(500mb)? ?

5/tmp(500mb)? ?

6/opt(3000mb)? ?

7/data (the rest? ?

~13.5GB)

What do I put in the START and Size(cyl) fields?

Thanks,

Mike

Start the install with disk 1 of 2 and you won't have to worry about specifying swap size which the Installation CD is requiring you to enter.

Swap will be able to be changed later, if required by manually laying out filesystems. If you start with the Installation CD it requires you specify swap size at the beginning because it will put the installer program in swap and run from there. It will not allow you to change swap size later on because that's where the installer is running.

Sweet, thanks that did the trick.I'm just not savy enough yet to be able to partition my drive by specifying # of cylinders per file system :-p
