Hello,
Probably you can copy antother machine齭 /var slice into the "broken" one and try to boot it but it will depend on what you had installed on that machine齭 /var directory before the disaster. For example, if you had a mysql database at /var/lib/mysql, you齦l have to reinstall it and "reinsert" all the data, but it齭 also posible the situation of not having special things at that mount point.
I think that reinstalling the operating system again is a little problem, but configuring it to meet the previous needs and reinstalling and configuring again extra software like database, web server, directory server, mail server,... and their content (database data, web server齭 content, directory齭 information, users?mails usually stored at /var/mail, .....is the main thing.
I would try to copy other machine齭 /var directory, try to boot and then reinstall all the needed stuff that have been lost.
Bye,
