If you are thinking about buying a small configuration, A75-LYZ1-N-512-AL8 for example, and adding a legacy SATA you should contact Sun and see if it will void the system warranty. Other than that it should work.

I don't know where all the FUD about commodity parts blowing your warranty is coming from, but it's just that -- FUD.

I have put Kingston memory in high-end Sun servers under Gold and Platinum

sevice agreements, and and third party drives in their raid arrays and

Sun never complained.

When you do warranty service the techs will definately ask you to remove third party gear at times (if they think it's causing a problem), but lets stop already with the warranty FUD*

Sun's the only other company I know besides Google whose corporate motto appears to be 'Don't be Evil'.

* FUD = Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. An evil sales technique used by a large computer corporation back in the mainframe days to scare people out of buying the competition.

Anyway, your X2100 should accept any SATA drive with properly attached front panel and rails.
