Sun/Sony GDM-5010PT Monitor problems

Can somebody please help me. I bought a refurbed GDM-5010pt two or three years ago. Probably two years ago. And it has been the best monitor i've had. How ever, around a month ago i had to retire it because the picture went wonky, it constricts the image in the center like an hour glass and has stretches the vertical image so i exceeds the monitors veiwing area. Any image i can get on screen is crisp and not out of focus. How ever the image is seriously handicapped. Someone sugested degaussing it, how ever there appears to not have a button on the front or a on screen menu. If there is an on screen menu none of the buttons I've used seem to display it. When I bought the monitor i never got a manual for it so i can go by the troubleshooting section and SUN's website won't let me veiw anything without propor clearance. Please somebody, tell me how to fix this.

Thanks, Andrew

I think you can only get the manual for this monitor through sunsolve and you would need a login account to download it. Section 5 of the onscreen display system is used for degaussing.

Look under optons. I think you will find it there.

Press and hold the reset button on the front panel for 3-4 seconds. This will reset it back to factory default.

Handled allot of those monitors, and your problems is the CXA2043Q, location name is IC007 it's a Deflection processor. The only way to resolve this is to replace the IC.

it's on the Deflection board on the lower right side.

Hope this helps.

Where abouts can you get replacement parts for this problem. Also, any idea what the cost would be for this part? I bought a monitor doing the same thing and would like to know if it is worth fixing or not.

Try this place, 32.99 ea.

There are probably several other parts houses that carry a chip that seems to fail so much.

You may want to check to be sure it's socketed first, if it's soldered directly to the board you'd need some special tools and skills to replace it.

These IC's are solderd to the board.

You need a Desoldering station with a attachment that can heat up all 4 sides of the IC all at once.

Also there are Elco's around it that need to be removed first to get easy acces to the IC.

The hardest part is removing it, soldering a new one is easy, but cleaning it with 100% alcohol is very important otherwise it will not work or not propperly.
