System rear fan1 fault :-(

Hi!

Since yesterday evening the box does not want to start up. It seems that I can access the BIOS and when I look at the DMI info, the only thing I see is a lot of entries with a date and then this very bad message

"System rear fan1 fault"

I already downloaded supplemental disk 2.1 and have CDROM, but I cannot reach the step where the box starts booting. Just after the SCSI controller has finished its house keeping, the box turns off itself.

I did also read some message regarding problems with supplemental disk 2.2 and CG stepping machines (well, I have such a beast). As I have read, this CD shall be applied to E stepping CPU's only. Is this just a bad rumor, or can I savely use disk 2.2 to upgrade the BIOS ... in case I can boot the box.

Any ideas?

thanks.

Hello,

first of all your posting lacks the system type !

I assume that it's a W2100z/W1100Z

Please review the following thread

W2100z/W1100Z new issue w/chassis fan

I would suggest that you open a service case with Sun.

Oops, yes a W2100z.

And I opened a case already. Watching the BIOS (which is the only thing I can do) is not very satifying

Thanks for the link, I did read this and a few others threads with similar problems already.

Thanks.

Strange!

It seems that running the BIOS for about one hour makes the system bootable. At least for quite some time. I could start the diagnostics CD, and fiddle around with some tests there.

Just booting without spending quite a long time in the BIOS does not work anymore. However, I am still afraid to flash the BIOS without being sure that the system stays up long enough.

Oh man! Why do all those fine things happen on a friday, this will cause a long weekend
